Hill Country CARES has a commitment to help victims of family violence and sexual assault put the pieces of their lives back together.
Serving Kerr, Kendall, Bandera, and Gillespie Counties with funds made available by concerned citizens, grant funds, and limited state and federal monies, HCCARES offers housing, counseling, and legal advocacy to victims and their children.
The dedicated board of directors, staff, and volunteers combine forces to help rebuild shattered lives and broken dreams of individuals caught up in the cycle of violence.

FAMILY VIOLENCE
- FBI statistics indicate that every 18 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband, boyfriend, or lover.
- 64% of all women will be battered at some time in their lives.
- Of the children who witness domestic violence. 60% of the boys eventually become batterers, and 50% of the girls become victims.
- Police officers spend at least one-
third of their time responding to domestic violence calls. - Violent families occur in every income category, ethnic background, racial group, educational level, and profession.
- Less than 10% percent of abuse victims call the police for help.
• 53 percent of shelter residents report being battered while pregnant. If you or

SEXUAL ASSAULT
- Sexual assault is a crime of violence, not of passion.
- Most rapists have consenting sex partners available at the time the rape is committed.
- One out of seven female college students will be a victims of rape.
- Research with convicted rapists reveals that the primary criteria used for selecting a victim are:
- Victim's availability
- Likelihood of escaping without being caught
- One out of seven rape victims is male.

It’s a Fact......
The video program includes details on what victims of domestic violence can expect when utilizing the courts to obtain a protective order, temporary restraining order or divorce. The goal of the program is to educate victims of family violence about their legal rights.
